Shofuso is a hot spring inn that opened in 1743 and is said to have the longest history in Matsukawa Onsen. The clouded white hot spring water from the source is rich in sulfur and is loved by fans of hidden hot springs all over Japan. There are 13 Japanese-style guest rooms, including a special room called Oruri.
The meals consist of courses of dishes made from local ingredients, such as Iwate Maesawa beef, tempura with seasonal wild vegetables, rainbow trout sashimi, and sashimi of char raised in pristine local streams. The eggs boiled in the sulfur-rich hot spring are also a treat! You can also enjoy playing with the resident cats, Kuro and Momo.
